Traffic fines since January 1, 2017 up to 30% more expensive

On January 1, 2017 the surcharges for criminal fines increased from 50 to 70. That means the fines from the Criminal Code and the special laws and regulations no longer have to be multiplied with a factor of 6 but must be multiplied by a factor of 8.

A fine for driving drunk, becomes at least 400 euros more expensive when the event comes to court. With the extra income, the legislator wants to achieve reforms in the judiciary and strengthen the prosecution policy.

The increase in surcharges is not alone. The Program Law of December 25, 2016 for example, increases the fine in the case amicable settlement is not settled in time. The amount is increased by 35%.
